Civic education through elements of culture and art

Why is the project important?

The formation of democratic citizenship among the population of Kyrgyzstan has become one of the priority areas of state structures, non-governmental and international organizations. During the country's independence, various methods of forming citizenship were practiced, but in general, the form of civic education in Kyrgyzstan has not changed for a long time and has already become traditional. It is an educational nature in the form of trainings, seminars, discussion platforms. However, this does not mean that it has lost its effect, but confirms that it affects only certain groups of educated and competent groups of the population. This form has the least impact on young people, as a result of which there is no new generation of citizens who recognize human rights, values are replaced and misunderstandings of civic competencies occur. In such circumstances, human rights and principles of democracy are not taken into account and are often interpreted incorrectly. In this regard, the project applied a creative approach, using elements of culture and art. Practice has shown that this approach is aimed at young people, is close to their interests and attractive for their perception of new information.

What is the project aimed at?

The project has been implemented for 2 years. The first phase of the project was aimed at involving creative and initiative groups in promoting the values of human rights and principles of democracy among the youth of the Chui region through civic education, elements of culture and art.

And the second phase is the promotion of human rights values and principles of democracy among the youth of the Kyrgyz Republic through the integration of the activities of creative groups and representatives of civil society.
